Streets is Dead: Barbershop Edition

I didn't say it should

Reread my post but with more comprehension and less feelings

I did, but the feelings are yours, hence that post and your reply.

Logically speaking, there's no compelling reason to charge $100 for a basic cut ever. If you're throwing in skin treatments, wash, and some other shit, ok now we might be able to justify it, but barring that: No.

These cats are trying to go the luxury brand route: Sell less, but make more per sale by overcharging. But that's a bad business model for the average barber, as you can clearly see since they're losing so many customers. Businesses are free to charge whatever they want for their services, but consumers also have the ability not to patronize those businesses when they don't see the value in the service provided at such a high cost.

Also, one of my college crew that used to cut us all up in the dorms has been a licensed barber for the last few decades with a fairly popular shop out here. Two of my aunts are also licensed, one of which had her own spot that I used to get cut at when I was younger.

No brother

My original response was correct

Now that we are here. My sister offers tiers but I think her base package still offers a basic upgrade or something. It's been a while since I've seen her price guide

But again, I'm with you. If someone wants absolutely nothing but a fade and a line, that price should be more in line with maybe $30 or so to adjust for inflation.

You are still paying for a service that is a convenience for you cause you don't want to do it for yourself

Then why the response??? I literally said:

No matter how you wanna spin it: A fade or a basic cut with a #2 and a line-up should never, ever cost no $100.

So if you agree with that sentence, why reply to me talmbout "re-read it blah, blah, blah???"

You said "no matter how you spin it" suggesting that I was suggesting that $100 haircuts should be the standard or rather nothing is wrong with them

I explained that the days of the $20 are over. The days of a barber trying to cut 20+ heads are over

There is a hair medium somewhere, I'm just not sure where it is

You're also speaking from a position of an older gentleman who might not want all the enhancements and whatnot and I agree that option should at least be afforded to you, however, again, reminding you that you are still paying a service of convenience cause you either don't have the time or know how to do it for yourself

I might be the only person in here that sees it from the barber pov

I will say that I do think there is a middle ground somewhere that one, respects the barber time and talent and two is still reasonable for the customer

The problem as I see it, and this is from a nigga who was one of the dorm barbers in college and was charging $7, is that there are niggas who want you to go to the end of the earth to make them look good.

Clippers are now hot af cause you keep having to make adjustments and now you have to wait longer for them to chill to cut the next person's head. Niggas was always coming to me at the last minute also right before they were trying to go to the club.

All I'm saying is, with the advancements that have been made in the hair industry, including things like enhancements, these aren't your regular haircuts. There has been so much more information that has come out about follicle treatment as well which is why niggas not just putting a razor to a bald head and calling it a day. I mean yeah you can and you will probably be ok but there are people that like to pay for convenience and someone to actually care about their scalp.

IDK if any of y'all know anyone that's been to barber school but they really have to know their shit. They not just getting a license out a cereal box. I'll NEVER call a dude broke for not wanting to pay $100 for a cut, but at the same time, the days of a barber trying to cut 20 heads a day are over

I hear you if you getting hair pieces and wigs and waxing and all that shit is fine. But most folks seem like they get regular cuts. Niggas ain’t asking for some intricate hair show shit most times.
