Let me introduce yall to a better way of life

Been cutting my own hair for 25 years. Cut all four of my son’s heads too. Watched a lot of YouTube barbers over the years to pickup on skills. Invested probably $1000 in clippers over the last 10 years but it’s worth it.

I’m cutting 5 heads every 2 weeks. Have about 7 different clippers I use. The biggest issue for me is the amount of time it takes to get us all cut so sometimes we’ll go 3 weeks without a cut but life happens.

If I took myself and my four sons to one of the barbershops here every two weeks, I would be paying AT MINIMUM $250 or about $500 per month. That’s crazy and that’s why I don’t do it.
 
Yeah I spend like $40 every 2 months....

That's it.. That's all Imma do.

I've seen two...

When the neighborhood barber shop shut down, I tracked down two of the barbers were in shops like that...

Then I found the homie who had a suite in the salon selects...and he was still giving $30 cuts....I started going there... Till that nigga retired.... Now I'm going to my homeboy's Uncle shop who still doing $30.... He gives my son a pretty good discount on the shape ups considering how he got dreads... Bro charges $40 for the both of us, I normally give him $50
 
Getting a fresh cut used to be one of my favorite simple pleasures in life now Im disgusted everytime I go

My barber is very good, the owner of the shop with his his own room in the back....but its always something and takes way longer than he needs.

Not starting the appointment on time
Trying to find something to watch on the TV
Trying to stop and talk to me about what's on the TV
Talking to one of his baby mamas on the phone
Trying to include me in conversations with his baby mamas on speaker asking me who is right and who is wrong
Charging $50
Have to book appointments through an app





And I will keep tolerating it because I will never attempt to cut my own hair

The difficult part in cutting your own hair, is doing a clean taper in the back of your head and blending it well.
 
I might be the only person in here that sees it from the barber pov

I will say that I do think there is a middle ground somewhere that one, respects the barber time and talent and two is still reasonable for the customer

The problem as I see it, and this is from a nigga who was one of the dorm barbers in college and was charging $7, is that there are niggas who want you to go to the end of the earth to make them look good.

Clippers are now hot af cause you keep having to make adjustments and now you have to wait longer for them to chill to cut the next person's head. Niggas was always coming to me at the last minute also right before they were trying to go to the club.

All I'm saying is, with the advancements that have been made in the hair industry, including things like enhancements, these aren't your regular haircuts. There has been so much more information that has come out about follicle treatment as well which is why niggas not just putting a razor to a bald head and calling it a day. I mean yeah you can and you will probably be ok but there are people that like to pay for convenience and someone to actually care about their scalp.

IDK if any of y'all know anyone that's been to barber school but they really have to know their shit. They not just getting a license out a cereal box. I'll NEVER call a dude broke for not wanting to pay $100 for a cut, but at the same time, the days of a barber trying to cut 20 heads a day are over

No matter how you wanna spin it: A fade or a basic cut with a #2 and a line-up should never, ever cost no $100.
