Work Out, Get Fit Thread

I swear I hate seeing muhfuckas recording at the gym. Thankfully it doesn't happen often when I go early in the mornings during the week, but when I go later in the morning on the weekends there's a much higher chance of it happening.

Found a new favorite leg movement. This is basically the set up but I’m doing a single leg squat instead (squatting with the leg that’s below the bar). You might not be able to do these if you don’t have the smith machine that angles straight down, most of them have a slight angle.

Feels similar to Bulgarians but the set up is not as taxing. I’m gonna make this my primary leg movement for a while to see how high I can progress the weight.

Just did my first Spartan Race w my wife, and our church.

Lemme say, even a Spartan Sprint 5k is absolute insanity. The trails we took and the length of the sandbag and bucket courses were ridiculous. I think our Sprint was mixed into the freaking Super. Because they were also running w us and I think that’s why the carries were so long.

Anyway, I did ZERO training for this, got sick Wednesday and puked my guts out into Thursday night. Friday I replenished, today, I nearly died.

Needless to say, I failed most courses. I had no stamina. I had severe cramping in both sides of my ribs so I couldn’t take a deep breath.

My right calf cramped and my toes curled inward. Couldn’t get it to release. Had to sit for about 10 minutes. Everyone is helpful in giving you electrolytes and sugar cubes and mustard. It’s crazy. People helped me nurse my calf back and on I went.

Nearly passed out 3x.

But I crossed the finish line. Completed yet defeated.

So I’m here to get it together.

Next year we run it again. So I’m going to be fully ready. There is a Spartan/Ninja Warrior gym nearby that I’m gonna hit up.

After I’m rested and healed (I legit still can’t take a deep breath hours after, I think I’m bruised from the cramping) my day one begins.

(Btw my wife does intense indoor cycling nearly 2x a day, places top 5 every time against 35 other cyclers, and these people are NO joke. She’s been doing this for over a year and she breezed it.

She placed 8/109 women in her age group; 46/487 women overall)

So I have work to do.

Funniest part of all this is your girl left you, lol. She like you not going to fuck up my placement.

Anyway, I did one of these a few years ago, but I “trained” (running club and some strength training and a lot of burpees).

Main parts I had trouble with involved climbing. The rest weren’t too difficult.

My homeboy who only strength trains got the climbing down but his legs cramped up towards the end and he barely crossed the finish line. My other homeboy was your wife, he left us behind while I dragged the other across the finish line.

Very happy to announce I lost 17 lbs the first quarter of 2025. I went for my annual physical and my pcp (a black woman❤️) told me straight up I was pre diabetic, have high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms and my BMI is fat.

I was like “well damn, am I alive?” :huh2:

I knew I gained weight but I should’ve known I would have other health issues especially since heart disease and diabetes run on my maternal and paternal sides. I was given weight lost medicine for the first 30 days but afterwards I’ve lost even more weight and maintained my weight loss because my PCP encouraged a lifestyle change instead of Rx dependency.

I’m very proud of myself for making healthier choices even when sometimes I just want a 10 piece jerk sweet chili, fries, veggie fried rice and a strawberry Fanta :chile:

My next follow up appointment is May 1st and my goal is to be 140, my PCP wants me at 135lb.

I love this for you BHL

UPDATE!!

Recently had my follow up. I didn’t make my goal of 140, BUT my PCP was very excited about my results. Next weigh in I’m determined to meet my goal of 135lb so wish me luck!

Truth moment, the weight loss isn’t just for health reasons…we’re family planning this year. Being parents is something we always wanted so we both had to make some serious changes. We start our fertility journey in July so send us some baby dust ❤️

My mom and sister/friend are the only ppl who knows about our fertility struggles, I’ll love to share our journey with my ABW fam. I mean we’ve shared so many other things, why stop now 😅
