Spend That (Wicked A** Song or Is That Your Jam?)

"WhErE wAs tHe OuTrAgE fOR tHiS rEcOrD?"

THAT'S THE POINT. WHERE WAS IT? WHERE IS IT?

At some point some of you gotta tap out of that frequency. You don't have to listen to every rapper talking about ops nor do they need to rap about that or other useless shit. You don't have to watch every show about black people dealing drugs or doing crime nor do they have to make every other show about black people dealing drugs and doing crime. And you gotta question why that content constantly gets pushed to us by white men with no face who sit back and make billions off it.

There's so much more to us. 9th wonders exist, Ryan cooglers exist, Issa rae exists. We need more of those people to be engines behind black artists and actors respectfully cause they've proven you can make excellent black content without any of the fuckshit. Theres so much more to us.

*Sighs*

People bringing up Ante Up like there were a bunch of black celebrities getting on cam throwing the song on like "Yeah, let's go rob some people."

I don't know many times it has to be said. The song in and of itself isn't the issue. It's the way there seems to be this universal embrace of the energy the song promotes. Ante Up was a club banger and that's about it. You didn't see Obama getting M.O.P to perform it when he announced his candidacy for the Senate a few years later. lol

Niggas want music to be boring
I don’t care I just ask for consistency

Don’t watch 15 seasons of Power then cry about this song

Don’t be excited bout the Reasonable Doubt concert then cry about this song

U get the point

Shit might change if ppl weren’t such hypocrites

I hope you're not referring to me with this take cause im none of the things. I haven't watched power or anything like it in almost 5 years. Not the chi, kanan, bmf none of that shit. Im not watching anything framing majority black casts in negativity.

I really don't listen to rap anymore like that unless its like killer Mike or Cole. I might go back in time for some jada and styles once or twice a year to remember the vibes lol. Otherwise its drake and rnb.

I been tapped out the matrix.

I’m speaking in general mostly about ppl who are close to the decision makers out there

Nah, you downplaying how big "Ante Up" really was. That wasn't just a club record. It was everywhere—NBA games, NFL games, MLB games, arenas, TV broadcasts, highlight reels. The remix made it even bigger.

Yeah, as a get hype album. You're being disingenuous if you're claiming that them playing that record in the context of a sporting event was promoting armed robbery. Half the people that heard the song at NBA games probably don't even know what it's about. They just associated it with "My team is about to F your team up."

There's no comparable context for Spend That. Now if people were just partying to the song or getting hype to the song, you'd have a point. The problem that people are complaining about is that they believe that others within our community are actually embracing the messaging within the song, and that's problematic. Now if you don't agree anyone is doing that, that's another line of discussion.

Bobby Blue Bland and Johnny Taylor music could never be boring. Anita Baker always captures the mind

Prince - Come on Du, boring

off the wall Mj

If your issue is based on content and being too explicit then you probably wouldn't like quite a few Prince songs. Especially the one I talked about before in this thread

I'm not trying to hear, I'm looking for the scamming niggas or where all my bitches that are on welfare.

I need a robber as my man,

How explicit was Prince songs vs Cardi B lyrics and the hoe-raps we hear today? Are you trying to compare Prince songs to the thot rap, hoe rap lyrics we are listening to today?

What is the song “Ante Up” about?

“You nah mean? It's gettin' ready to go down
Funkmaster Flex, Tunnel style, shout to Big Kap, Cipha Sounds
M.O.P. Ante up in the fuckin' background for the real niggas, you nah mean?
Shout to Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, Staten Island, Uptown Harlem
Where the BX, all my real niggas with the 20 inches outside, you nah mean?
Fake niggas, get the fuck out, and hold on to yo' shit, you nah mean?
Funk Flex, one time for your motherfuckin' mind
One!
Take minks off! (Uh!) Take things off! (Uh!)
Take chains off! (Uh!) Take rings off! (Uh!)
Bracelets is yapped, Fame came off!
(Ante up!) Everything off!
Fool, what you want? We stiflin' fools
Fool, what you want? Your life or your jewels?
The rules (back 'em down), next thing (pat 'em down)
Respect mine, we Brooklyn bound (bound!) Now (now!)
Brownsville, home of the brave
Put in work in the street like a slave
Keep a rugged dress code, always in distress mode
(That shit gon' send you to your grave!) So?
You think I don't know that? (Blaow!) Nigga hold that! (Blaow!)
Nigga hold that! (Blaow!) Nigga hold that!
From the street, cousin, you know the drill
I'm nine hundred and ninety-nine thou short of a mill
Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
It's the perfect timing, you see the man shinin'
Get up off them goddamn diamonds!
(Ante up!) Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
Get him, get him, get him! Hit him, hit him, hit him
Yap him! Zap him! Yap him! Zap him!
Them thugs you know ain't friendly
Them jewels you rock, make 'em envy
You thinkin' it's all good, you creep through a small hood
Goons comin' up outta the cut for your goods, and they all should
Ante up! (Yap that fool!)
You want big money, kidnap that fool
If you up in the club, I've got your pis-tal money
Catch them fools at the bar for that Cristal money
The '87 stickup kids (what you niggas sayin'?)
Get the fuck up out that 740, shorty, I ain't playin'
It's flash that thang time (bang!), bang time
(Ante up!) Nigga, it's game time
Hand over the ring, kick over the chain
Gimme the fuckin' watch before I pop one in your brain
Stop playin' these childish games with me
Representin' 1-718 dangerously, nigga
Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
It's the perfect timing, you see the man shinin'
Get up off them goddamn diamonds!
(Ante up!) Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
Get him, get him, get him, get him! Hit him, hit him, hit him, hit him
And then yap him! Yap him! Zap him!
I'm a street regulator, true player hater
Get back down, make yo' ass a MAC sprayer hater
Things that we need; money, clothes, weed
Indeed, hot food, booze, essentials, credentials
Code of the streets, owners who creep
Slow when you sleep, holdin' the heat
Put holes in your Jeep, respect the streets
It's the L-I-L F-A-M-E
Yeah, nigga Danze, gave you a chance
'Cause I blasted yo' man, I'm in the wrong?
He said he was strong, I had reason to
Believe he had some shit up his sleeve all along (so?)
Fuck you, Your Honor! Check my persona
I'm strung out off of Old Gold and marijuana
I'ma do what I wanna, quiet as kept (raise hell!)
'Til I'm expired and stretched, yes Lord
Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
It's the perfect timing, you see the man shinin'
Go and get them goddamn diamonds!
(Ante up!) Yap that fool!
(Ante up!) Kidnap that fool!
Get him, get him, get him! Hit him, hit him, hit him
Yap him! Zap him! Yap him! Yap him!
Hahahahahahaha, fuck
Nigga!
What's up? What's up? What's up? Fuck
(First Family, First Family, First Family)
Motherfucker!
Yeah!“

The instrumental for it is being used in movies, tv shows, and commercials.

Im saying if your issue is explicit lyrics and sexual content then Prince making songs saying stuff like this falls into the category of stuff you saying you don't want promoted

"I'll give you head 'til you're burning up
Head 'til you get enough
Head 'til your love is red
Head, love you 'til you're dead

You know you're good, girl
I think you like to go down
You wouldn't have stopped
But, uh, I came on your wedding gown
You said:
"I must confess
I wanna get undressed and go to bed""

I don't think 5th graders would be singing this for starters, vs having 5th graders boys and girls, (black) yelling, Where all my scamming ass niggas at, or I'm looking for the scamming ass niggas now. Scamming ass niggas is being looked at "good"

Where all my scamming ass niggas is being played on the radio.

In that time when Prince songs dropped or this particular song you quoted, where would a 5th grader (a classroom) would be listening to this song?

Kids wouldn't even have heard of this song until they've reached 18 and this song is pushing negative towards a community.
