COMMUNITY Fair/ Foul: Are BLK folks currently portrayed in enough of a positive light on Television/Streaming to you right now?

Shit there was a skit at an awards show a couple years back where all 3 of Cedric tv wives tried to make him pick his favorite. He stay with a tv show
How the neighborhood made it 8 seasons I will never understand but I'm happy for em. Just looked it up and this is the final season. They had a good run and getting that syndication bread

This is funny. I happened to watch Bernie Mac & Ashton Kutcher movie over the weekend. Viewing it with a more mature mind I thought that despite mentions of stereotypical things for laughs, the black family was represented well. But to be fair, the whites havent had a "Seventh Heaven" in awhile.

Beta is mad he doesn't have kids.

Cuz kids shows are cooking right now
This aint get no likes or cosigns because its cap.

Kid shows are ass nowadays. Remember when Omar Gooding had 30 minutes dedicated to recess? Those were the good days.

Once the anti hero wave of media took off family sitcoms weren't pushed as hard for anybody really. Every show had to be some dark gritty struggle telling some grand tale about society

The problem is, right now.........or at least for the past 3-4 years.....the most popular black shows seem to center around some kind of criminal element.

The main shows that come to mind are the Power series and The Chi.

Black people are portrayed on tv decently, niggas just dont watch those shows. Mans missed shows that dropped recently like emperor of ocean park, forever, the madness, Washington black, office movers, cross.... would rather see black characters commit crime in nice clothes and cars. Smmfh.

Those were based in black trauma not positivity.
Shits were still good, and had good ass characters...

How many black sci-fi/horror shit is out that's legit good??
Black trauma? Yes.
Black excellence? Definitely.

People wanted a season 2 so bad they ain't even care that there was no more source material. It was a genre that we definitely enjoyed representation in...

Now I didn't mention "Them" cuz while that shit was horror too....I feel that one relied way too much on the trauma.... With Lovecraft country it was a part of the backdrop... But not heavy focus.... It was on some other shit...

And watchmen, c'mon bruh.... That was definitely not a focus
... Black Mr Manhattan and Regina King put on some serious compelling performances. Let's not reduce that to negativity and black trauma ...

Those were some good and popular shows that a lotta black watchers embraced

Im not sure what all you wrote has to do with black people/characters being portrayed in a positive light. Nobody is debating the quality of the shows, performances or reception.

A good portion of watchmen tv series plot had to do with the Tulsa massacre iirc. Thats the trauma im speaking to. Black trauma was a focus in both shows. Now that doesn't mean I think they're negative black shows like I think power, bmf, and the chi are but they didn't really shine positive light on black lives as much as they made plot points out of black trauma.

Fair. Not enough shows people just being black and happy without excessive trauma or just an overall negative show.

THE UPSHAWS IS NOT A POSITIVE BLACK SHOW! Mike Epps be treating Kim Fields like shit! Has she left him yet? I checked out on that terrible ass shit lol.

She left him for about half a season then they got back... I think. I need to go finish that at some point.
