Fragrance thread

So I like to go to this store Perfume de France in Virginia because they have a huge collection of fragrances. I just found out that they can make you a sample or travel size (5 or10ml) of most of their frags. I dont need full bottles anymore so this is perfect. A travel size will last me for a while. They also ship if anyone is interested in a frag that is not normally made as a travel size.

I went and got Roja Apex eau intense . $47

I shouldn't have strayed from my process of picking a frag. I normally do a test spray or sample and wear it for a day before deciding if I want it.

Apex eau intense smells great but has terrible performance. I smelled it once and just bought it. Something I dont usually do but since it was a travel size, I was fine with it. At about an hour, it becomes a skin scent. By 3 hours, pretty much disappears. I looked up the reviews and a lot of people said the same thing. They also said this is almost completely different from the og apex in terms of smell.

They say the orginal apex performs better as well. I will get a sample of that.

Do you also smell the orginals that the dupes mimic? To see how they stack up?
i've only smelled 3 real fragrances that i have dupes of and to me, they do the job

I have a dupe of Noir 49? one of the baccarat joints (smells like luxury baby powder) and the LV Imagination...well i lie...i've smelled all of the LV ones in person and have dupes for all of them except 1 that actually doesnt have a dupe

Late asf lol

But i finally got to spray myself with that Tom Ford bitter peach. Everytime i found a bottle they were empty smh...but i lucked out at the airport yesterday!

Its feminine leaning but i loved it lol. And it lasted on me till i showered at home

Already got a big boy bottle on the way 👍🏾

Yeah Roja, like most brands when they get bigger have ruined most their fragrances with reformulations and put profit above quality now...

It wont be long until they end up selling to LVMH or L'Oreal etc

Picked up a back up of vintage Chanel Allure Homme... The box is abit battered but the fragrance is in great shape...

Damn this fragrance is incredible, shame they ruined it with reformulations...

Well, I dont think this is a reformulation.

Apex eau intense and apex parfum (the og) are two completely different fragrances. Im gonna get a sample of apex parfum. That one had way better reviews. I did smell it in the store but It was after smelling other fragrances. My nose was getting confused.

Yeah I just mean since they started majorly reformulating fragrance in the last 5 years or so, that the brand quality in general has dropped... Even their packing has been cut back...

It happened to brands like Creed and Tom Ford etc they give everyone crack, then cut costs and bank loads of profit to inflate their worth, so they can then sell the company for a bucket load of money to a private equality firm or someone like L'Oreal...

I did like some of their fragrances from their discovery set though but this was during the first COVID lockdown and cant actually remember them now...

The main thing is that if you try the fragrance, like it and are happy with the performance...

Have you tried any Guerlain??? Roja worked there and alot of his fragrances are based on their classics...

Coincidentally, I just saw an ad for Guerlain online earlier today. Never tried or seen their stuff before.

Bro you have so many dupes you can buy a decent amount of the OGs lol
Nah lol

I have a couple og's but admittedly I don't use them like I use the dupes cause I'm like, 25 for a dupe? I'ma over spray this shit cause I can just get another one. I don't care if I go through a bottle fairly quickly

I also have to realize I don't have to get the 3oz bottles of every scent and can get the smaller joints to save some money.

I'm still very much finding my way in this game but I'm also ok with not investing a ton of time in it. I know that probably don't make sense but I feel like I have a method to my madness

Like I have the real one at the house. I keep this one at work in case I leave the house without any smell good. The OG was a gift. I would never spend that amount on myself for a fragrance but this smells pretty close but not exact

I went dupe crazy too for a minute for the same reason as the bolded. I had to reign myself in a little bit. Now there are some dupes I will buy over the OG because of either performance or the OG price.

Cop you some atomizers so you are not traveling with the whole bottle. What ever I spray for the day, I put the atomizer of that frag in my back pack. In case im going some where after work and need to respray.

@ The bolded. Exactly why I got Turath Blue. It is a dupe of Bvlgari tygar. The dupe has better performance and cost way less.

I defo recommend checking out their fragrances and trying some samples...

Guerlain Homme EdP is a great summer fragrance, thats pretty well priced too... Its a little close to the skin but it has great mojito accord thats great in the heat...

Their Neroli Plein Sud is unreal but so expensive I've yet to pull the trigger but its the best neroli fragrance Ive ever smelt... They got a few amazing nerolis tbf, Outrenoir Neroli and Nerolia Vetiver are also great but NPS is out of this world...

Samsara, Mitsouko, Shalimar and Jicky are apparently inspirations for some Roja fragrances, try checking them out in their vintage form if you can...

The mysore sandalwood in vintage Samsara is incredible... Funny they are technically labelled as female fragrances but female fragrances from those eras are more unisex and masculine then most modern day mens fragrances... Example being Guerlain L'Heure Bleue easily smells like a leather fragrance anyone could wear, my vintage miniature actually smells more like a mens fragrance than female... Though Ive never smelt the current version...

You guys also have a what looks like a great site vintagedecants.com thats just opened, annoyingly they only ship with in America... Code: ramseythegoat10 gives you 10% off too (ramsey is a vintage fragrance youtuber)...

Though Ive bought from these two French sites, they have tons of vintage miniatures at good prices... Miniaturesdeparfum is really dope...

Fair enough, fragrances do get expensive... Theres some great OG fragrances you can pick up as cheap or cheaper than dupes too... All these can be found cheaper than $25... Ive got the Laliques, Zino and Jaipur but I do wanna try the rest at somepoint...

Lalique Encre Noire
Lalique Encre Noire Sport
Lalique Encre Noire A L'Extreme
Boucheron Jaipur
Bogart Pour Homme
Cerruti 1881 Pour Homme
Azzaro Pour Homme
Aramis
Halston 1-12
Halston Z-14
Grey Flannel
Richard James Savile Row
Davidoff Cool Water and Zino

Mad to think but Creed's GIT is actually an expensive and high quality clone of Cool Water... They have the same perfumer and almost the same ingredients, just Creed used high quality ingredients alongside the huge dose of dihydromyrcenol that both contain...

Yes GIT was made first but Oliver Creed took the 'recipe' from Bourdon and went and made GIT but switched the normal ingredients with the finest materials... Cool Water came out a couple years later with standard materials...
