Fragrance thread

Ebay got the better of me again 🫣

Got the second discontinued Opium Pour Homme flanker 'Possie de Chine' and a vintage (first year) Opium Pour Homme...

Also placed a stupid low bid of £40 for the Guerlain Jardins de Bagatelle from online charity store and won lol I'll give that to my dukes...

First purchase of the year. Got Turathi Blue. It is a clone of Bvlgari Tygar. One of the better clones. It got great reviews. Tygar is a great smell but has terrible performance for a $400 frag. This was close in smell and projects longer. Only for $30.

I hit a lick on Ebay... I was the only bidder on this 230ml vintage Caleche and won it for less than £25!!! Its easily a £250-£300+ fragrance...

TBH I would had understood if the seller cancelled the order, couldnt believe they actually shipped it... Im still buzzing...

Its one of my dukes favourite fragrances so Ive obviously given it to her...

The seller also messaged me and asked if I wanted these pretty cheap, £100 for all 3... So I ended up blind buying them too, as I didnt wanna give them any excuse to cancel the Caleche order lol

Although Im not overly keen on them a) they are female fragrances, albeit pretty unisex but also the Armani is too animalic and the Boucheron way too floral... So I'll probably sell them in the future... The 50ml Armani '1982' EdT and Boucheron are easily worth over £100 each, so I should make decent money on them...

Have you ever got burned on ebay for fragrances. Im worried it would be fake or watered down

Not yet thankfully... Although I did buy my dukes a sealed Opium for mothers day that had about 1/3 of the juice evaporated, which is always a risk when buying a vintage fragrance... So that was an L...

Though I wouldnt l buy popular vintage/discontinued fragrances like Creed or Tom Ford as they are so heavily faked that I'd never be 100% happy... Which is annoying as Id kill for some of their classics...

Splash bottles could potentially be watered down, so that is a risk but the only splashes Ive bought are the Hermes Caleches for my mother, personally I only look to buy sprays (other than the miniatures)...

Theres quite a few markers/indicators to look out for though, so you can do some process of elimination when looking at a fragrance to insure all the markers align...

For instance along with batch codes on the box and bottle, look to see who the distributor was the time of the fragrance your looking at (YSL for example has gone from Charles of The Ritz, Parfums Corp, Sanofi, Gucci PPR and now L'Oreal)...

Then theres indicators such as:

Pre 1980 fragrances had the alcohol content displayed with ° symbol rather than % (e.g °80 vs 80%)...

The 'e' estimated sign next to the liquid volume would also indicate it being post 1975 and the appearance of EMB code post 1978 too...

The lack/lack of green recycling dot is handy too, as that came in effect in 1992...

Then theres other other little things such as engravings on the underside of caps etc, bottle manufacturers and checking the seal/ring under the atomisers etc

These things help, though ultimately its still a risk but theres also risk with buying current fragrances from the grey market too...

This is a good source for different brands:

So I went and smelled some frags. I smelled a scent last year that smelled like you were in the great outdoors. I thought LV made it so I went to the LV store in Tyson corner. I tried many but not all. I couldn't find it. That pacific chill is a pass. Afternoon swim was really light.

Went to Neiman Marxus. Tried Roja Elysium and Apex eau intense.

Elysium smelled good but it has a similar DNA to Nishane Hacivat, which i already have.

So I like to go to this store Perfume de France in Virginia because they have a huge collection of fragrances. I just found out that they can make you a sample or travel size (5 or10ml) of most of their frags. I dont need full bottles anymore so this is perfect. A travel size will last me for a while. They also ship if anyone is interested in a frag that is not normally made as a travel size.

I went and got Roja Apex eau intense . $47
