Who had to go up against

Jeezy, Wayne, Drake, Nicki, Cole, Kendrick, Kanye, T.I, Game, being a CO

Idk If this is a worthy thread or not but fuck it lol

Ross had it rougher in the sense that he was not able to reach the levels of any of those ppl you had him going against

Nelly sold as much or more than almost everyone on that list, at that time, outside of Eminem

Imo part of that could be that it was easier for Nelly to stand out. Midwest country rapper when the scene was dominated by the east.

Whereas Ross was a tree in a forest during the southern reign but also collab'd with a lot of his competition. Also worth noting that by this time rap music started sounding less "regional".

Nelly actually had to compete with the elite of his class Ross did well and had some great moments but he was never really competing with Wayne, Kendrick, Drake, Nicki like that. He was always a tier down.
I could argue Ross was a tier down because his competition was so strong

So you're saying the tier of wayne, drake, Kendrick, nicki in their respective years was better than jay, dmx, 50, kanye, nelly, em in theirs? Just so we're clear. If not its irrelevant.

If so he was still a tier down and that means they weren't his direct competition.

And you can't say tiers don't matter cause you can then just say Ace hood ( or insert any rapper from that time) had it tougher. It's levels.

I’m saying relatively, Ross maybe had a harder time with his competition

I think Nelly had it harder mainly bcuz he stood alone and still sold big numbers while Ross definitely collabo'd heavy with his field

The most ridiculous song ever was 3 kings..

Jay, Dre..... And Ross??

ROFL at Ross getting on that track. And really carrying it like he was in that bracket. I always found that hilarious.

Nelly had to compete with Jay, 50, DMX, Eminem and Ja rule. He would go on to sell more than them at times. Nelly had a crazy run. You would have to understand the type of run that those artists were on to truly understand how impressive it was that Nelly was not only competing with them, but performing better than them at times numbers wise.

Everybody was getting a deal and money was flowing from majors for big budget music vids

Nelly couldn’t do shit with Air Force ones in 2007

Far as Ross, he wasn’t doing numbers like his top competition, however he was putting out high quality music. If you put Ross in Nelly’s era. He would still be in the same situation and not sell as much as his top competition
