OPINION What are your thoughts about designer brands now China has ruined the allure

Look at y'all

Mature and shit🥹
I feel our people promote this so much.

I remember being in school and kids use to destroy each other for not having the newest shit.

I’m so glad I was never to type to make fun of others like I seen.

Yea I always had things but looking back at it my parents should have done better with their money instead of buying me and my sister all the newer everything.

I draw a fine like with my oldest because he’s at the age where he wants more clothes, shoes, etc…

his grandma and grandpa spoil him because he’s in honor classes plays sports. But his behavior this year is so up and down I think I because me and mom getting a divorce.

He asked for some Jordan 3s a few weeks ago like he ain’t just get back from suspension.

I see more than a handful of kids with all the newest gear at his school and he’s falling into the allure of it too.

Speak your mind brother

There's a lot of moving parts. I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach this topic.

Would you agree that more times than not you get what you pay for in terms of quality or is it mostly marketing?

I thought that it was pretty well known that designer goods and counterfeits were made in the same factories in China...

I have a few designer handbags on my wishlist, but the plan was always to buy vintage. That plan hasn't changed.

Marketing

I do think there are better quality made products but that's more of an exception these days vs the generally accepted rule

Also knowing how to care for your garments has been proven to extend the quality of life for clothes as well. But if you think by and large there's a factory or a supplier for the sole purpose of having magically better products then IDK what to tell you

My definition of quality is something like a shoemaker who makes maybe 1000 pair of shoes a year for a very specific type of cliente. Anyone thinking that somehow the US is the only country that outsourced clothes, shoes, purse, etc production to China is not... Hmmm... Equipped to have this convo. The other countries been doing it as well.

Are there hand crafted bag makers in Italy? Absolutely, but again, see the shoemaker example. I'll go a step further to add the only reason why bags like Hermes birkin aren't massed produced is because they are selling you the idea of exclusivity.

That's been a thing in the sneaker game for years.

"UA" sneakers get a pass for the most part.

But to add on/respond to @AP3.0

There's a distinct difference between "UA" products and straight up fakes with the jumpman logo doing a full split on a pair of jordans for example. The quality difference is significant.
