Was TV Better In The Past?

When I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s there were only a handful of channels; NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS and 3 local channels in Boston that played reruns.

In 1986 my family got cable which was about 50 channels.

Nowadays I can't count how many channels I have. I have an Amazon fire stick which gives me at least 500 channels plus on demand TV.

Were things better in the 80s when everybody had the same channels?

Nowadays theres so many shows that nobody watches the same show anymore.

Your thoughts?

I've pretty much given up on attempting to keep up with all the popular shows over the last 10-ish years. It definitely was easier to have shit to talk about in the lunchroom back in the late 70's, throughout the 80's, and in the DC on campus in the 90's 'cause there were fewer channels and fewer shows, and particularly only a handful of Black-centered shows that most of us would talk about.

I have a Samsung tv in my living room and I've subscribed to Samsung TV+. There's so many fuckin channels on there it's ridiculous. When we had Direct TV we had crazy channels we never watched. Even with the lil digital HD antenna I have hooked up there's a grip of channels that I never intentionally check out.

There's such a thing as "too much", we've gone well past that point.

No in terms of content. Yes in terms of only having to go to one place for all channels.
This. The amount of content and the quality of content has increased hugely.

Having to subscribe to 20 different things has been shit. Some of these companies need to merge together and keep the price point the same and release their ENTIRE library. I hate how the licensing rights have effected some shows. Theres Showtime shows i cant find anywhere unless i rent it, yet i have paramount+ with showtime and should have access to the entirety of the library showtime has.

Some HBO Shows arent on HBO because they licensed them out to Netflix for however many months. Some i cant find at all because the show is owned by somebody else, HBO was just the network it aired on.

I want access to everything all the time for a reasonable price lol.

This is why piracy had a whole ass resurgence. Folks got tired of the bullshit and said "fuck it" and started downloading every season of every show they wanted to watch, especially if it wasn't available on DVD or BluRay.

I think it’s a way I’m programmed. I got Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and decided to do away with YouTube TV.

Only after a few months, I had to get that mufucka back. I don’t even watch nothing on it. It stays on the comet ch. with reruns of Grimm, Xflies, and Xena

But there is just something about hearing mesothelioma and nugenix commericials, that my body just needs

We're in a circle. We went from cable, commercials, and weekly releases to streaming, no commercials, and full season releases to streaming, commercials, and weekly releases

And people like it lol

There are some series where I just want the whole thing up front. I don’t think some series are strong enough to string me along week by week.

Or that deserves the respect of thinking is capable of that. Shoes should have to earn not dropping a full season

I really don’t like having to buy movies on Amazon prime when I already have Amazon prime
Or paramount for that matter. Telling me I need a paramount subscription

Bitch ain’t you paramount?
