'Avengers 4': Will We See Professor Hulk?

Marvel fans today received what appears to be their first look at the newly assembled team of Avengers that will challenge Thanos in Avengers 4, including a version of the Hulk that looks a bit off compared to his cinematic appearances up until now.

The concept artwork shows the Hulk looking mean and green, but slightly smaller than usual. He’s also wearing what appears to be a kind of super-suit.

For longtime Hulk fans, this may appear to be the first hint that the Hulk will take on what is referred to as the merged Hulk or “Professor” Hulk persona in the comics.

This takes a bit of background to explain. Anyone who has seen the Hulk in movies knows that he and Bruce Banner coexist as separate personalities within the same body, sometimes amicably and sometimes contentiously. When the Hulk emerges, he usually has childlike intelligence, which makes his destructive power all the more dangerous since he is prone to emotional outbursts and can’t easily be reasoned with.

However, in the Hulk’s long history, there have been times when Banner’s own personality and intelligence has been partially maintained even when the Hulk emerges. At one point, there were even multiple Hulk personalities vying for control. Along with Bruce himself, there was the savage green Hulk and the gray Hulk, who displayed about average intelligence and operated at night as a Las Vegas enforcer named Joe Fixit.

Bruce’s friend, the psychiatrist Doc Samson, attempted to help Bruce by working through Bruce's feelings about how his father killing his mother. This brought a new order to Bruce’s mind, allowing all three personalities to merge into one, theoretically idealized form.

The Professor’s physical form was almost like the Hulk’s, though he wasn’t quite as large and kept a more human face. He also kept Bruce Banner’s intelligence and more sociable personality. However, rather than become stronger as he got angrier as the Hulk usually does, the Professor would actually revert to Bruce Banner if his emotions got too out of control, a kind of safeguard that Banner and Samson installed to prevent the savage Hulk from reemerging.

This version of the Hulk proved to be only a temporary fix to Bruce’s problems, but another, similar personality emerged much more recently. After the Brotherhood of the Shield tried to kill the Hulk, Iron Man saved Banner’s life by using the Extremis serum. This allowed Bruce to develop the Hulk personality known as Doc Green, who was super-intelligent even in his Hulk form. This was, again, a temporary state as Doc Green quickly realized that he was becoming less and less intelligent and would eventually return to typical Hulk levels.

Since Extremis was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe Iron Man 3, it is possible that it could be used in Avengers 4 to cause the Hulk’s change. Or perhaps Iron Man will just come up with some new concoction to help his science bro out with the problems he seemed to be having with his other half in Avengers: Infinity War.

'Daredevil' Showrunner Up For a 'Moon Knight' Series

Daredevil Season One showrunner Steven DeKnight might not have put Moon Knight in the series but he has a clear vision of how the character should be portrayed.

DeKnight, whose most recent work was serving as director on Pacific Rim Uprising, spoke to ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview. Like his conversations about a potential God of War movie, DeKnight's chatter of Moon Knight started with a Twitter conversation.

"That's a weird story actually," DeKnight said. "I never considered including Moon Knight in Daredevil. Somebody asked me on Twitter a while back if I would do Moon Knight and I've always been a huge Moon Knight fan and yeah, if I had the time in my schedule and the stars aligned, I'd love to do Moon Knight. I mean, I love the whole multiple personality. Is he crazy? Is he not crazy? Has he really gotten these mystical powers? Are they supernatural or is it all in his head? I think it would make for a very, very interesting Marvel universe kind of Netflix show. I also hope they'll expand and give him a shot sometime."

On the horizon for Netflix is a third season of Daredevil, and second seasons for Luke Cage and Iron Fist. While many Marvel fans are lobbying for a Moon Knight series, the character has not yet been tapped for a live-action adaptation.

At a press event for Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige promised there are plans for Moon Knight, though they might not be immediate. "Yes," Feige told ScreenRant. "Does that mean five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now? There are stacks of character cards that we have in our, in our development offices, which we look at. Which we pull for him, which we discussed."

PLEASE make moon knight happen. The Daredevil crew have been doing a dope ass job. Still my favorite Netflix series closely followed by Luke Cage.

Luke Cage season 2 comes out really soon too, cant wait to see what happens. I still havent watched Punisher or Jessica Jones Season 2. Will have to peep those this weekend before Luke Cage drops.

I thought the first season of Jessica Jones was pretty decent. Didnt necessarily have me excited for a season 2 but there were some stand out moments for sure.

Iron Fist was my least favorite of course, but I think they will step it up a lot for season 2. Season 2 has a new Showrunner as well, but just based off his credits, i cant say im super excited about it still.

Fox Provides 'Gambit' Update at CineEurope

It sounds like 20th Century Fox's Gambit solo movie might not be down for the count just yet.

According to the Russian webiste BulletinKino, Fox apparently briefly included Gambit in their CineEurope presentation. After screening a trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the studio apparently announced that The New Mutants and Gambit were other projects they have planned in the Marvel universe.

For some Marvel fans, this will be a slightly puzzling development, considering the plethora of production news that has surrounded Gambit. The film has been in development for several years now, with planned release dates as early as October of 2016. But the film has dealt with quite an array of production woes, with three different directors departing the project and fans losing hope at the project arriving on the big screen.

The most recent updates around Gambit seem to suggest that the film will be getting back on track, with a goal of getting into production sometime very soon.

“We have a script that’s extraordinary, that we love, that Channing loves,” executive producer Simon Kinberg explained last month. “We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last few weeks and we’re hoping to pick one in the next couple of weeks, then shoot the movie maybe this summer.”

The film is set to star Channing Tatum as the card-throwing superhero, with Lizzy Caplan was rumored to join the film back in November. There's no telling exactly how the film will further evolve, depending on who ends up sitting in the director's chair.

"Now we’re really getting to do some of the things we’ve always wanted to do with the script." Tatum revealed last August. "We’ve just sort of started over."

"I think we got lucky," Tatum continued. "We got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn’t seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then Deadpool and Logan came through and kicked the doors down."
