The Official MCU Thread

Marvel Studios produced it. Universal Studios distributed it.

The only difference between those 2 films and the rest of the MCU, excluding Spiderman, is the company responsible for distribution.
ah ok

but compared to the other movies, its not that good lol which is why im in the belief there hasnt been another hulk solo film

maybe there just wasnt a need in the grand scheme of things, but i cant imagine Marvel doesnt foam at the mouth at the thought of all the Hulk merch they can push with a solo film

They want to but Universal refuses to sell the distribution rights to Disney. It's all about keeping money in house.

Yeah I can't remember the full details, but marvel owns the movie rights to hulk, bUT universal owns distribution rights.

The mcu was thought of around the time hulk was made, but it wasn't set in stone. Kevin feige did an interview a long time ago saying that stark appearing in hulk was more of just a playful tease, bUT after some success they decided to start a connected universe starting with iron man 2. Because of universal holding on to distribution rights to a hulk solo film, marvel is only able to use hulk on screen as a teammate or co star of a film. Then after the hassle the studio had with norton they said fuck working with him and recasted hulk. I'll try finding the feige interview once I get to work.

STARTING WITH IRON MAN
Arad: The first we made was Iron Man. . . . [New Line] didn’t know what to do with it. I don’t want to put anybody’s name on it, because if they missed it, they just didn’t get it, and that’s totally legitimate. And we had two movies to start with. We had that and we had Hulk with Universal. The key issue was Hulk was known, so we thought it gives us a leg up. We had the relationship with Universal, specifically on Hulk. All of these movies were licensed when I was 11, and I’m 70 now. All of these things were old deals, weren’t good deals.

Feige: We didn’t have Spider-Man. We didn’t have Fantastic Four. [We had] the B-list characters—that was the L.A. Times or somebody’s headline. I never really thought that because I knew that Iron Man was really cool and Hulk was, arguably, next to Spider-Man, the biggest character we had. I thought they all had amazing potential, but the goal was deliver these two movies, and make the best Iron Manfilm we could, and make the best version of Hulk, even coming five years after another version of Hulk. It wasn’t, this is the first of a 22-movie cinematic saga.

THEIR FIRST COMIC-CON, 2006
Feige: I think that panel in a large part was to say that Marvel’s making movies themselves now, and here’s the information we have at this point. My favorite part of that is when somebody asked: “Is The Avengers ever possible?” We had no real plans at that point. It was a pipe dream. So much of what we’ve done is based on a pipe dream.

Favreau: There was the sense of having characters available to them of Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man—it led to the notion of Avengers as a lighthouse to aim towards. But it was only in very general terms. . . . So we had gone to Comic-Con and talked about what we were planning to do, but at the very beginning we announced a villain that we didn’t end up using.

Feige: Jon announced the Mandarin as the villain in Iron Man.

Downey Jr.: It’s easy to get ahead of yourself. I remember when they said the Mandarin was supposed to be the bad guy in the first Iron Man movie. That’s later.

Feige: I think if we had run before we walked, we would have done all those things we said in the panel—which we didn’t.

^^Just some excerpts from the Interview. Can read the full one here. RDJ, Favreau, Avi Arad, and a couple others throw out some info too.

Fuck that stupid shit AP saying, Incredible Hulk was awesome

I think it would have been better had Ruffalo played him then. It was a great story without going into his origin yet again.

Its fight scenes is still some of the best MCU has made
Yeah Ruffalo is a much more likeable actor, arguably a better actor in general.

I'd like to see a Ruffalo solo film, but I can understand why Marvel won't make one.
