They actually go back to 1968. They recorded a few songs with a label called Steeltown before they recorded for Motown.

This song Big Boy was actually released as a 45. They recorded some more songs that, to my knowledge, went unreleased until the 90s. Then somebody found the master tracks and put out an EP/Album.
