PRAISE: I appreciate when a movie like this does its best to avoid cliches particularly that of the sexy new housekeeper or nanny being a devious seductress who slowly but surely pushes the wife out and takes the husband.....well this movie does a little bit of that .....and its fun. First off the cast has fun with their roles the full runtime of the movie including. Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn. Director Paul Feig has been a master for the most part of directing actresses and he does a great job here. Its the small doses of several things that made this work for me for the most part. Manic insanity, campiness, dark humor, some originality, borrowing a bit from movies like Sleeping With The Enemy and Diabolique. I found myself smiling throughout.
PROBLEMS: The acting stalls in a few scenes especially from Sweeney who's reactions should have been far better to crazy twists. There are a couple of things two characters decide to do and it didn't have logic or reason to it because of who they knew well and what the price would be. Definitely a few on the nose predictable turns.
