The bigot got 17 years
New York Highway Superintendent John Reilly, 49, was sentenced on Monday to 17 years in prison and will also have to complete five years of post-release supervision following his conviction for a shooting that occurred last May.
Reilly, 49, faced accusations of shooting and seriously injuring Alpha Barry, a food delivery driver who had legally immigrated to the U.S. from Guinea.
According to State Police, Barry, 24, knocked on the door of a house in the Valerie Drive neighborhood of Chester on May 2, 2025, carrying a bag of food. He had forgotten the address of the house he was supposed to deliver to after his phone battery died.
In response, Reilly told him to leave before he grabbed a gun and fired twice at Barry, hitting him once in the lower back.
He had to have emergency surgery, during which two feet of his small intestine were removed because the .45 caliber bullet did not exit his body.
Barry, who had only moved to the U.S. in October 2024, managed to drive away from the scene but collapsed when he got home.
He had to undergo emergency surgery, during which two feet of his small intestine were removed because the .45 caliber bullet did not exit his body.
“For six months, my life revolved around a colostomy bag,” Barry stated in a message read by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold at the beginning of the sentencing.
