PRAISE: In this movie Director Dan Trachtenberg includes the thread of a character trying to prove themselves as he did with Prey and the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers. This time the story is about an alien hunter and an unlikely ally embarking on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Elle Fanning as Thia, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek are terrific in this sci fi action romp. Dek not only has a relentlessly difficult quest set before him and spurned on by raw emotion tied to a father son relationship that would even make Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker shake their heads at. I was very curious about Thia and who decided to give her programming with such a witty and caring personality. I liked that everything on the planet Genna was alive and also out to kill. So many great watch your step and keep your eyes and ears open moments. The fact that the movie not only further explores the Predators but also the androids of Weyland-Yutani, and WY once again proves how cold of a company they are and its definitely their way or the highway. The action sequences are great and also the creation of so many alien species definitely made me think of Alien: Earth. I believe the last time I watched a Predator team up with someone....even though reluctantly in this movie was in 2004's Aliens vs Predator but the team up here is written and played far better. There was something i was hoping for in the climax of the movie and i was very happy it came to fruition
PROBLEMS: I did laugh at how much of a PG-13 movie this was, actually leaning into a PG movie tone with bite. I wonder how much the studio was involved with the writing for specific characters to ensure a PG-13 rating. Some of the CGI looked a bit off at times. A couple of to convenient moments and predictable ones.
