After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.

PRAISE: With a strong message of be very, very careful of what you wish for this film is horror laced with dark comedy. The story is basically that Bear is deeply in love with his platonic friend Nikki but is too afraid to ruin their relationship by confessing his crush. The leads Bear (Michael Johnston) and Nikki (Inde Navarrette) do a great job as the movie gradually reveals the true status of where a possible relationship between the two stands. Navarrette stands out in key scnes displaying her range and unflinching performance. As the movie slowly but surely drifts into a horror blended with gore and bodily fluids, codependency is creeping around the corner and taken to horrific levels and haunting imagery i didn't see coming. The imagery is so well done with shadowy figures and proving that darkness in even the most smallest places can be intimidating. It also explores loneliness and how that can factor in to someone wanting a romantic relationship so much that they can even bypass the insanity and carnage they're experiencing. Writer and Director Curry Barker does a good job of balancing the tones in the movie. The score by Rock Burwell never lets up.

PROBLEMS: At times the movie felt repetitive and tedious and about 10 minutes could have been cut from the movie. There were a couple of moments I could see coming from miles away.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

Had no idea Curry Barker did this movie until today. Gets me a bit more hyped about it.

Curry Barker got popular doing comedy sketches on IG/TikTok, but him and his crew have been doing more horror stuff in recent years as well as maintaining their comedy page.

If you havent seen it already, should check out his short film "The Chair" and they also did a low budget full length horror film called "Milk and Cereal". They should be available for free but im not pulling them up on youtube anymore.

I just finished this and this might be the best horror film of the year. I see why people are going in hordes to watch this. For this to be at a 100 mill domestic with an under 1 mill budget is insane.

A horror film around the saying "Be careful what you wish for" and the horrors of being with a partner that is codependent. By the end, I actually found Bear to be the true villain. It was sick when Nikki pleaded for Bear to kill her while she was asleep and actually in control of her body. Look at the lengths male loneliness will take you. What a performance by Inde Navarrette, getting more manic as the movie went along and a lot of it being done with her facial expressions.

Effective jump scares and a score that sets the tension throughout
