New ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Movie in the Works From Paramount

Paramount Pictures has closed a deal for the U.S. rights to the original screenplay of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the movie written and directed by Wes Craven that kicked off the popular horror franchise featuring the killer with the metal-claw gloved hand and burned face, and will adapt it into a new feature.

The new Nightmare on Elm Street will hail from Paramount’s new genre label, Paramount Primal, led by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, the producers behind films such as Barbarian and Friendship.

The hell is "Paramount Primal"? Just what they're calling their horror films banner?

Im okay with them redoing this. They might as well, lmao. We just got done with a trilogy for Halloween, that were technically "sequels" i guess. But also remakes at the same time, since they were only sequels to the very first movie and everything else after that apparently never happened.

We got a new Texas Chainsaw on the way from Curry Barker the Director of Obsession.

We got new Friday the 13th prequel show coming out and im pretty sure theres a new movie featuring JAson on the way.

Another Exorcist is on the way. Basically all those huge horror franchises are being remade. I expected a new freddy to happen.

Nightmare is the one franchise that should be actually scary as fuck though. No slapstick 80s cheese wisecracking humor. Just give us straight up horror. Maybe freddy can have ONE line for the audience to chuckle at, but i want to feel afraid of him for the rest of the film.

With the remake they did somewhat recently, i want to say it was from 2010 or something. I loved the idea they had for Freddy as far as making him this evil predator that the neighborhood banded together and eliminated on their own and he comes back to haunt them, but being a Michael Bay movie it was executed poorly. Put this franchise in the hands of the right people and this can be just as effective to audiences as it was back in the 80s

are the same people(executives) involved in this one?
Wes Cravens estate owns the rights currently. It reverted back to them after New Line couldnt get another move out of development hell. Paramount purchased the rights to that screenplay by the Craven estate. They are looking for producers and such now.
