Louisiana Is The Latest State To Remove Soda and Candy From Food Stamps

WIC SERVES A DIFFERENT PURPOSE...... A SPECIFIC PURPOSE THAT IS IN THE FUCKING NAME.

It stands for WOMEN, INFANTS, and children. It was literally created to provide nutrition to pregnant women, recently pregnant i.e. breastfeeding women, and infants. There was a large number of women low income/poor that met this criteria that were suffering from illness and ailments due to lack of nutrition and excessive hunger.

The program was created for giving them nutrients so the restrictions are in place to condone only that.

It's still government assistance no matter how you try to spin it and it's goal was in line with that of the Food Stamp Act, just focused on women, infants, and children, meaning its also redundant. That money still comes from the same government that you now bemoan as being too restrictive for trying to ban pop and junk food snacks, yet WIC doesn't allow for any of that shit already. Let y'all tell it, WIC should also allow its recipients to buy whatever instead of being extremely restricted. I mean... Here in Michigan, WIC won't allow you to buy white rice, only brown rice. Can't buy brown eggs or organic eggs either. A lot of the restrictions make no sense, but it's 100% fine as long as it's "for the chirrens".

perhaps the focus should switch from not allowing people to buy certain items with food stamps/snap to stopping these greedy ass corporations from poisoning us(whether we on SNAP or NOT) with their products

All these politicians profit from those greedy corporations so that'll never happen.

I do not disagree with pretty much anything you said. Its just that I also believe there is another face to our oppression. As much as we have persevered, we have lost too. One way we have lost is that we have given up some freedom for guaranteed welfare. It makes no sense for people fully capable of working to be living off of welfare for their entire adult life. For some it is their entire life. They go from being a child receiving foodstamps and cash help to an adult getting SSI or something even less.

These programs should help people, but instead they keep people dependent while businesses support it to keep wages stagnant. It especially doesn't help that we use this money on food (many stores know how to charge alcohol using food stamps) that is further crippling our motivation.

At this point this government is almost subsidizing these food companies with welfare money.
Totally agree. There needs to be a comprehensive plan to break the dependence, starting with increasing wages.

Like, we enforce the poor to eat right.... But rainy
Eating poorly? That's a rich man privilege.

The 2% are not eating that bullshit in regular grocery stores. Yall think the people who own Walmart are eating out of there?

This is when people on the ground level force change. If customers changed their habits the money will follow

Wrong. You don't understand what they are.

You could google WIC and Food stamps instead of just going off your vibes of how, you feel they are.

Children age out of WIC provisions at 5yrs old. Because it targets Infants and small children under 5 yrs. SNAP has a broader selection of food because it's for poor families or families experiencing financial hardship.

WIC is made to lessen death among pregnant/post pregnancy women and infants. It does not cater to the food selection of SNAP because it's ONLY goal is providing nutrition during early development.

it's not redundant, It's targeted. There are health check ups associated with WIC for enrollment and re enrollment as well as healthcare referrals

They don’t care about that. They have accepted that. None of these niggas would be ok if somebody said they couldn’t buy snacks

welfare had restrictions on it
nobody was complaining buying off-brand groceries with no-frills

I think I mentioned this the last time this came up as a topic.

We were on WIC when I was a kid; I know what the fuck it is. My wife was on WIC and Section 8 until the day we got married; I know what the fuck it is. (I told her that next morning to cut all that shit off tho). You ain't typed out not na'an thing that I didn't already know.

I said earlier in this thread: You can't tell me SHIT about being poor in this country, 'cause that was me growing up and my family periodically while we were living in Las Vegas. Shit, for that matter, it was us when we first moved to Phoenix. It's only been since November of 2021 that we haven't had SNAP.

I still support these measures, even after having relied on SNAP myself.

SNAP literally stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - it's kinda hard to defend that those funds should be able to be used for non-nutritional junk food. If you want the junk food, use money it's not that complicated.

There's multiple issues being conflated. The costs of eating healthier/more nutritional food. Access to this food, and the social aspect of the "im better than you" that comes from people who look down on those using these programs. They all end up being mixed together in this topic
