Louisiana Is The Latest State To Remove Soda and Candy From Food Stamps

The 12 states now participating are: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and West Virginia. Each state is responsible for setting and enforcing its own version of the new rules.

In all 12 states, SNAP recipients will no longer be able to use their benefits to buy soda or sweetened beverages. Some states, including Florida and Louisiana, have expanded restrictions to include energy drinks and candy.

Other states, like Arkansas, are going further, prohibiting SNAP purchases of fruit and vegetable drinks that contain less than 50% natural juice.

Damn , they only thinking bout fat kids , but I use to be in youth shelters flipping the candy I bought at Costco or sams club, taught me discipline, budgeting , keeping track of inventory, marketing, sales and other admirable traits that are good for capitalism without getting into the drug game , middel class people use wine and prescription drugs , rich use harder drugs only people that really eat candy and chips are the poor people that can't afford more effective means of copping so those companies will stop making candy with effects dentist , also sugar cane production will plummet wich means once again farmers voted in someone fucking up their livelihood swearing he was their savior

This is a good thing. For too long this country has allowed the poor to kill themselves cosplaying as the haves, when the situation is that of the have-nots.

The best thing about this is that all of those killer candy and soda companies will lose money killing poor people using tax money. Add frozen foods to that too, like pizza and hot pockets.

I see the poor propaganda is working here.

Being on the government dime doesn’t make it ok for the government to basically control their lives. What happened to letting people live their lives as they see fit?

Also, poor people aren’t all lazy do nothing fatsos sitting on their couch all day eating snacks. This is just another effort to further dehumanize the poor as second class citizens.

If anything, set prices for healthier options lower for those on SNAP so they’re more affordable. Use positive reinforcement to induce behavior instead of punishment. Hamburger Helper and Ramen isn’t any better than candy bars and chips if you’re serious about providing healthy foods to the poor.

Dehumanize is a strong word. Nobody needs to be eating or drinking any of that shit.

I know y'all are illiterate and some hoes, but to be in here cheering because some poor 8yr old can't ask their parent for a fucking candy bar.

The order doesn't even define candy for all you know they'll extend the reach of the wording to include cupcakes and birthday cake. Terrorizing poor people under the guise of - putting a stern hand to "Welfare Queens".

I'm conflicted.

Soda is unhealthy as fuck for you. Supposedly. Same with sugar and candy bars. Put a tax on all that shit and I'll be fine.

But saying a 6 year old can't have a snack cause his parents are poor doesn't sound like it's right.

This ain't even a race thing at this point cause there are more white people on welfare in most those states than any minority.
