Clean it, oil it, run over to Walmart and cop a box of 12ga slugs and go out to a range close to you (unless it's outdoors, most ranges don't allow anything but slugs for shotguns). Do this at least once a month. In the event you have to use it (God forbid), you'll be ready.

Friend of mine inherited a shottie from her maternal grandfather some years ago. I was at her crib back in December for a Christmas party she threw.
