OPINION How come noone ever ranks 2 Live Crew as one the greatest rap groups of all time?

People argue all day between N.W.A and Wu-Tang Clan as the best group. I also heard The Roots and Tribe Called Quest get brought up, even Three Six Mafia gets a nod every once in a while. However one group that almost never gets brought in the conversation is 2 Live Crew

Why is that? People seem to forget how much of an impact these guys had on the genre

Probably because their music was pretty much just party music and quite gimmicky...

I wasnt until Luke went on Combat's podcast back in the day, that I realised/leaned how pivotal the group was... So I went and bought Luke's autobiography on the strength of that interview and it was brilliant read... Really recommend that book to anyone...

Since Covid at least, all these new female rappers are just 2 Live Crew + Trina or Lil Kim

Their music didn't transcend like other groups. They were great in their time, which was short.

They had some hits and are legends in their own right. Their court case wins over the 1st Amendment & the use of parody in their songs will always be a landmark for hip hop.
