This podcast made a good point. Basically you don’t want Daeron riding the dragon in case he decided to try to run or set fire to parts of Kings Landing on the way in. Daemon and team would kill him but not before some damage was done.

So it was better to have the dragon keepers take possession of Darron’s dragon and transport it back. I guess now though Daeron is no longer innocent cause he’d have to be riding the dragon for it to attack that city.
