This video provides a detailed breakdown of why the recent *Supergirl* film underperformed at the box office, challenging the *New York Times* narrative that attributed the failure to misogyny (0:24-0:45).

**Key Takeaways regarding the *Supergirl* flop:**

* **Audience Composition:** Contrary to the claim that a "male misogynist" audience rejected the film, 59% of the opening weekend audience was male, meaning the demographic supposedly responsible for the backlash was actually the primary group purchasing tickets (1:53-2:08).

* **Marketing Mismatch:** The studio centered their marketing strategy on *Gen Z women*, yet that target audience largely failed to show up. Simultaneously, the film's star made comments during the press tour that alienated the core male fan base who ultimately made up the majority of the theater attendance (4:25-5:12).

* **Historical Context:** This is the second time a *Supergirl* film has flopped, with the 1984 version also failing commercially. This suggests the issue is specific to the character's unproven status as a box-office draw rather than a broader rejection of female superheroes (5:59-6:35).

* **The "Formula" for Success:** The video contrasts *Supergirl* with successful films like *Wonder Woman* (which succeeded on high quality) and *Captain Marvel* (which benefited from the massive momentum of the *MCU*). It argues that *Supergirl* lacked both franchise gravity and a strong, non-cynical narrative hook (6:50-8:45).

**Conclusion:** The creator concludes that the film's failure was a result of a $290 million budget being applied to an unproven character with a misguided marketing strategy, rather than a moral failing of the audience. The video posits that framing business losses as a result of societal "misogyny" is a deflection tactic used by studios to avoid admitting poor strategic decisions (14:14-16:49).
I wouldn't say gen z women. It was just more like punk girls which has been a thing for generations

I honestly can't remember the 1984 movie but I don't think it's fair when the sample size it 2 movies lol

Supergirl!

This is a decent movie. It's not the greatest superhero movie but it is solid. It really is a movie about the journey of Kara. She isn't just a female version of Superman, but it shows her struggles with trauma and how she fights to find herself. Give it a go!

The villain is a bit meh, but this story isn't about saving the universe, it is about the character of Supergirl and her discovery of her self.

Some of the CGI is a bit average in parts. But in others it is fine.
I'd agree

OK bruh @deadeye I had to put you on ignore for all this trash you posted. Especially for posting that milk dud head ass coon Anton Daniels bitch ass. I don't know if you trying out for a body snatched negro in Get Out 2 or you just brain fried from all the anti-woke slop from these loser ass grown men grifting, but brother you too old for this and need to get your self together.

These losers on the internet do not live in reality nor do they have any power or impact on a movie's performance. Plenty of movies flop as did Masters of the Universe. Did that flop because of an agenda? It's not that serious and you in here talking about you were not going to see the movie because of the trailer, so why do you care? Those losers been hating on Supergirl since her Superman cameo. They still mad because Bri Larson hurt their feelings and were wrong about Captain Marvel flopping. So pathetic.

The movie did bad because

We not ready for a Supergirl in an unestablished new universe yet

The movie is mid

Other more popular movies came out around the same time

People who saw it didn’t like it and then told others that it sucks

I was at the vet and heard a white family talking about it and their kids didn’t want to see it

Then they were taking about Mitchell Robinson leaving the Knicks

That’s really it

Fuck James Gunn I was really off this as soon as I saw the typical Devil May care attitude from the main character that’s been really popular lately and that trope needs to go
