55-60% of the Northern population supported Abraham Lincoln and went along with whatever he wanted. They also supported the 13th amendment not because they wanted to free slaves, but because they wanted to preserve the union.

So by this analogy, you’d need a super popular president in conjunction with a superseding motivation other than “to help blacks” to get it through.

If they say they want reparations they’re not getting elected.

These people have teams that only focus on what messaging gives them the best chance to win. At some point, they decide that platforming reparations is a losing proposition. And you can’t win on a losing proposition.

I know it sucks, but I deal in the reality of what the US is as opposed to what it should be.

They did not support the release of slaves is what I am stating, the % was low, like the % is low for black folks getting reparations.

The % has always been low and will be low, but somehow someway, we get what we want.

We get it threw means, the universe, etc.

We have the Dems controlling everything on DC land, and you want black folks to blame the Reps for not giving up reparations, but here it is, the black vote has made it so that the Dems can control DC and you are saying that we can't get what we want once the dust is settled?


And you want black folks to continue to put the Dems in office? Why? When they can't give us (your words) what we want

Can you explain why this makes sense to the average black person under 50?

Let's say that they don't say it (but they know this in their hearts and minds that black folks want reparations, they hear the noise, it's too loud to ignore now and will be going forward)...but for this convo, let's say they don't even bring it up reparations talk during their campaigns and the Dem candidates win...they control everything...now we as black folks are saying we want reparations,

Now they've in office, and on the 4th day, black folks go to the DC, with signs, put on rallies, etc etc and ask for reparations, what do you think should happened for black folks now that the Dems control DC?

For slavery, we didn’t force that. Civil Rights, yes we forced that, but it took a wildly popular president, Kennedy, to put it on the table and get people to support it, à la Lincoln with slavery.

But you know what Kennedy did not promise when he ran in the 1960 election? Civil rights legislation. Do you know why? Because he knew it would alienate white southern democrats.

You know who didn’t run on ending slavery in 1860? Lincoln. You know why he did it? To punish Confederate states, not because he was altruistic and thought it was wrong.

The Union was getting their ass kicked by the South, it was because of black folks joining the Union is why they won, which the deal was made.

They have to be there to do it.

You’re saying they won’t even get there if they don’t promise reparations in their campaign. If they promise reparations they lose.

Can you not see that failure in logic?

Kennedy did not promise Civil Rights, but he heard the noise.

Lincoln didn't promise to end slavery, but the South was kicking his ass and black folks save the Union and he had to do something.

But you’re saying you wouldn’t have voted for Kennedy or Lincoln because they didn’t promise anything for blacks when they ran.

I’m sure the same question was asked about Kennedy. But you know what black people did? They put him in office first. They didn’t say destroy the Democratic Party because he didn’t promise it.

They saw he was more likely to do it than the other side. They voted him in then pressured him to do it.

Right, and I'm saying it was black folks who got black folks out of slavery by helping the Union win the war, he wanted to save the union, he didn't want 2 United States because the Union need the South for material to survive. He had to give up something which was slaves. Black folks don't fight, Black folks stays in bondage or at least, until folks get sick and tired.

The South didn't need the North, they had all of the raw material themselves and could sustain on their own

Black people put the Dems in office and they did not get Civil Rights. These are the Dems we are talking about..

Black people put Obama into office and did not get Reparations.

So using this same pattern, why would black people continue to put dems candidates into office, use up their vote thinking that the Dems will give them reparations and they don't push out reparations?

You keep doing the same thing over and not getting what you want is called insanity.

In my example, I'm saying that black voters came out and voted this time around, they won.....Now the Dems are controlling DC in 2028

Now that they are in, because black folks voted for them....

Will the Dems give black folks reparations?

You want black folks to vote for the Dems, in this example, black votes this time, voted for the Dems, now what will happened, will black folks get their reparations?

You’re proving my prior point. There was a superseding issue that prompted the ending of slavery. What is the superseding issue that will push an elected president today to provide reparations?

You’re asking me to speculate and I don’t know the answer to that.

Civil rights getting passed took iterative steps and voting in people that would push it a little more each election cycle. It didn’t happen because black people said no rights, no vote. They didn't accept suffering at the hands of the party that shunned them.

How am I proving your point? You're saying because of the Civil War happening, event is why black folks got something?
