Fuck Trump and his admin and Sam Altman and AI.
That said, I think this is worded a specific way to get a reaction.
Is it giving a stake to Trump admin, or giving a stake to the govt? I don't think they would give a stake to the people in the trump admin specifically. Even this admin and ChatGPT can't pull off corruption at that level.
This is having the govt own a piece of the company and not trump and his cronies specifically.
Welcome to the age of socialism
Right.lol Have you been paying attention? Trump's corruption knows no bounds. Dude just cleared a gun restriction for no other reason than to help his son's gun business, and his fam has been profitting off the war in multiple ways.
Right.
But is ChatGPT giving Trump and his people a stake or the US govt?
Its the US govt.
Trump will take credit and say I made a deal and now the govt gets 5% of the profits from OpenAI.
But its the same as the Intel deal. US owns 10% of Intel, not Trump.
Fuck Trump bro. Trust me I know how corrupt he is. But that tweet was still bullshit.
We should be discussion if the govt should be part owning AI companies or any companies. Thats an issue on its own and a big one.
But that tweet was straight engagement bating making it sound like openAI offered Trump 5% specifically when its the US govt getting 5%. Trump admin just happens to be in charge.
The thing is where does it stop? US govt has owned parts of businesses forever but it's usually due to bail outs and shit with companies too big to fail etc. You're probably right. I haven't really looked into it. It's just unwise to ever underestimate how shit Trump is.
The government getting a piece of a company isn't a bad idea in and of itself. The problem is that AI really needs to have some checks put on it and I doubt that will happen if the government is basically getting in bed with those companies.

Owning profitable companies like Intel and openAI is straight gonna lead to the govt making policy decisions off its own profit. Making the budget work will take precedence over protecting people from these companies.
Plus where does it stop? Why not own a piece of all companies and then stop taxing me?
And in that case, how is that different from communism?
I already know the govt doesn't give a fuck about protecting citizens from corporations but this is just a discussion around this philosophically
It is funny how maga will call the left communists or socialists but then turn around and do the exact thing. It's hypocritical crapFuck Trump and his admin and Sam Altman and AI.

It won't cause people don't care. Plus the report is other AI companies will do the same.It is funny how maga will call the left communists or socialists but then turn around and do the exact thing. It's hypocritical crap
I'm curious if chatgpt will lose subscribers and users
Philosophically on what a govt should do, I agree. Those are good questions. I honestly think the government should control everything that humans need to survive/thrive i.e., food, mass transportation, energy, healthcare, education, etc... Keeping that stuff private puts us in situations where companies can choose decisions that harm people if its more profitable. It also puts the government in positions where when those companies are hurting, the government basically has to help them, but those companies never bear the same responsibility towards the people. Sort of like how the government could bail out the airlines during COVID using taxpayer money but then those same airlines turn around and fight against reasonable measures like Biden's order for automatic refunds and the rejection of junk fees. It's kinda crazy when you think about it.

But this govt? Or any govt that exists right now? I wouldn't give them the power to control shit. If this govt controls food and there is a shortage, will they distribute it fairly? Fuck no. Just one example.
In theory we agree for sure. In practicality, no fucking way I trust humans enough to give any govt even more power than they already have
Why would the government getting a piece of OpenAI and the company potentially becoming public be a reason to boycot ChatGPT?Strongly disagree with giving the govt more power over everyday essentials but that's for another thread
Any of you not going to use chatgpt now? Switch to gemini or one of the others?
