OPINION Best HS or youth athlete you’ve ever seen in person

For me this is easy, there was this QB at Cedar Hill HS named William Cole, and it seemed like every third play was him taking it to the house. Bro was Lamar with about 70% of the arm talent.

The 2nd play of this clip basically summarizes his season.

He later went to Ok State as a DB and didn’t really do anything, I think they hoed him big time not allowing him to play offense because not having the ball just made him decent but not special. I think he would have gotten a shot at WR eventually if he didn’t hurt his knee.

William Cole was an exceptional quarterback at Cedar Hill High School, particularly during his senior year in 2006. He led the Cedar Hill Longhorns to a perfect 16-0 record and the Texas Class 5A Division II state championship, marking the school's first state title in football. His performance that season is widely regarded as one of the most dominant in Texas high school football history.

As a dual-threat quarterback, Cole showcased remarkable athleticism and versatility. During his senior year, he passed for 1,606 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for an astounding 2,966 yards and 41 touchdowns, averaging over 10 yards per carry. His standout moment came in the state championship game against Cypress Falls, where he rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries, including long scoring runs of 75, 71, and 63 yards, while also throwing a touchdown pass. This performance helped Cedar Hill secure a decisive 51-17 victory.

Cole’s impact went beyond statistics. He was named SportsDay’s Player of the Year and Texas Football magazine’s Player of the Year, earning recognition as one of the top high school athletes in the state. His coach, Joey McGuire, called him "the best football player in the state of Texas, bar none," emphasizing his game-changing ability. Observers noted his lightning-quick decision-making and speed, which overwhelmed opponents and made him a nightmare for defenses.

His 2006 season was so impressive that sports writers and fans alike have compared him to other Texas high school legends, with some arguing he was the most dominant player they’d seen until Kyler Murray emerged years later. Cole’s combination of passing, rushing, and sheer entertainment value as a senior solidified his legacy as a Cedar Hill icon and one of the greatest high school quarterbacks in Texas history.

My highschool had some very decent athletes...

I think the best I've ever watched in person is Todd Galloway

His older brother was nice too, but Todd was the shit. He played overseas ball for a minute.

It was a guy from my neighborhood named Domo who was crazy nice too.... They were actually on our highschool team see the same time. I only caught one game cuz I wrestled... But they had the whole neighborhood out when they played

Ashley Howard used to cut my hair in college
But he was a year ahead of me, so I never saw him actually play. He was injured by his sophomore year. But he went on to coaching. He's at Villanova now.
