Reviews rolling in and...

I think I went into it with super high expectations because I didn't like it

The soldier at least added some comic relief until he was killed. He had some funny lines about the mother calling the kid dad

Somehow the virus acted as a steroid and created intelligent alphas while also creating some crawling ass bloaters that eat anything? Like there's a hierarchy? Wtf?

I thought these things didn't need to eat. I was hoping that would be explained but apparently they eat and even drink

I was wondering if the baby was the alpha's and that's why it was going after them but that would mean they also have sex and that just opens up way more questions

The ending almost seemed like a spoof that was written in at the last minute

I just rolled my eyes when the kid set the tent on fire to create a distraction so he could sneak him and his mom out. All that time and the dad never noticed the kid and mom were gone? No one else did?

Also where the hell did he get pen and paper to write the note when leaving the baby?

Something was seriously wrong with that doctor yet they tried to normalize the tower of skulls and columns of bones

Also WTF with the kid just holding his recently deceased moms skull and climbing to the top of the tower and kissing the skull to put it away

The baby was quiet the entire time he went back to drop it off? And he met no infected on the way there?

Lmao you have over thought this too much it's a film about zombies of course it doesn't have to be completely realistic.

But you have also missed the point and message of the film,

The film is political (Alex garland is Involved) it's about isolation and relates to Brexit the soldier mentioned that he's from Sweden and has a girlfriend back home, but this island is quarantined. He also said he has a friend who's a delivery driver and had a working iPhone So there's a suggestion that the rest of the world/Europe has control of this virus.

Things have evolved and mutated (like all viruses)

The message is about isolation but also like all zombie films/TV programmes the zombies are never the worst things on a island and as humans maybe the way we treat and act towards eachother maybe we are the issue.

The ending relates to the sequel that's coming out next year

1 and 2 weren't zombie movies...

They weren't. Watch them again. Zombies eat people. Those did not. It was a pretty clear separation from that movie genre. They even had them spitting up blood on people to infect. All they were was rage

Maybe my expectations were too high but this wasn't it, Movie went to shit once the kid decided to go look for the doctor. Aside from the cinematography nothing clicked at all for me aside from the main kids performance.

I think the trailer for this film (which I usually stay away from) made it look a lot more urgent then it really was. People can claim world building all they want but the ending with jimmy saville doesn't fill me with a lot of hope.

lol We all have different taste and that's ok but you have history of missing the point of films
Didn't realize I had a history. I'm slightly curious what movies I supposedly miss the point of

I'd argue though that he went on a tangent with the 3rd movie and it doesn't work with the previous 2

Also I've seen other movies of his that aren't political

When I explain why 1 and 2 are not zombie movies you say I'm getting stuck in details but it seems more like you are

Checking on some reviews it looks like I'm not the only one that thought this wasn't good
