Eh it is what it is. This movie made up for the atrocious 80s movie. I’ll take it as a win. Might do great streaming. Also it’s not lost on me this movie was released during pride month…He-Man’s pretty gay.

PRAISE: I will always remember going to A&S when I was a child with my mother and seeing the He Man and Battle Cat, plus the Orko and other characters in these boxed sets in the toy department and I thought they one of the greatest things created. That's the kind of nostalgia this movie provoked from me as I smiled ear to ear throughout watching the movie. As Prince Adam/He-Man Nicholas Galitzine, does a pretty good job. Im so glad he wasn't saddled with a prolonged fish out of water thread for long periods of time. The rest of the cast including: Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arns, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto and a host of others never take themselves to seriously and that really helps the movie when no one truly hams it up. I liked the nods to the classic cartoon and even the new Netflix animated series. There are some effective scenes in which I said to myself yes thats exactly how a child would think and also how we all even as adults reconnect with our childhoods every now and then. The movie is campy reminding me of the adaptation of another iconic character think 1980's Flash Gordon. The campiness works especially in a couple of scenes which lean into well this is where a commercial break would have happened. I also liked that the movie hints at some things vaguely nodded to in the original animated series. Theres also a great passing of the baton moment. Even with all of the fun action sequences, jokes and innuendo (which there is a suprising amount of) the movie manages to squeeze in some heartfelt moments i enjoyed. I never felt the two hour plus running time.

PROBLEMS: Aside from an action sequence and a great quick one liner. I thought the scenes that take place on Earth were weak with painfully unfunny banter between the characters along with repetitive visuals. I thought a couple of moments were highly predictable.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8
