Should employers opt to random drug testing of employees?

I would say depends on several factors

-what industry are you in (determines level of risk to either yourself/someone else or potential property, liability etc)
- salary ( the more you make, you kind of have to expect an employer to be more involved in who they employee.
- suspicion if you may be on something during your work hours.

In my industry with different companies it went both ways.. every single one of then did an initial during the hiring process, and once it awhile would do a random, but unless you hurt yourself or damage something wouldn’t go past but better believe if you fucked something up… you heading to drug test shortly after 😂.

Why not weed?
It's only illegal due to bad propaganda from back in the day. I agree you shouldn't be high at work, especially if operating heavy machinery or driving...

But just for employment.... Many companies are moving away from testing for weed simply because it's being decriminalized and used recreationally in more and more states.

It's not even an illegal drug in most places anymore, so is kinda backwards to test for it for a job, cuz it's not like people these days have to go to the streets to buy it like a controlled substance. All you need is a valid ID.

The issue is that drug tests don't actually tell if you're high. They tell if you have chemical remains of the drug in your system. If you have a job moving heavy machinery and head to work on Monday and get hit with a drug test, that blunt you smoked on Saturday night is still gonna show up on a drug test but that has no affect on the person's ability to do their job on Monday. That'd be pretty ridiculous.

If you have a job that actually requires no drug use within a certain timeframe of performing the job, thereby giving it time to get out of your system, and those jobs wanna drug test, then cool. Pilots is a good example.

A hack is to go to the drug testing place right before they close. A lot of them are nursing assistants that date drug dealers and are friends to the common blue collar man. They don’t wanna narc on you, especially at the end of their shift. I watched my shit get lightly dipped, toss in the trash and ignored. Go at the end of their shift, they don’t care.

Do they have tests that determine whether someone is currently high vs having ingested THC recently? I didn't think they screened for it the say way they do alcohol. I could be wrong about that though.
Mouth swab. 24 - 72hr range.

There isn't even a test to tell if someone is intoxicated on alcohol. Tests can only measure your blood alcohol level. There's a legal limit, which is .08, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're intoxicated. Depending on the person, you can blow a .08 and not be intoxicated or impaired at all.

Then testing should be fair at these types of jobs.
By that logic, testing for alcohol should be fair too.

I can see testing for weed if you show up to work obviously high, which is against the rules. But that goes for alcohol too if you show up obviously drunk.

But just to see if you’re a user, no.

Im not against this logic tho. I'd fully be behind putting one of those blow air to start apparatus in any vehicles or heavy machinery you needed to operate while on the job.

1. I don’t do drugs

2. I don’t smoke

3. I have heard that stock guys (Wall Street) do a lot of wild drugs. Same with people in Advertising, but they will go hard on liquor
