Louisiana Is The Latest State To Remove Soda and Candy From Food Stamps

What I gather from all of your arguments is you think people lack empathy and are selfish. When we talk about what’s happening to black people under this administration you always say “well you’re good so why you care?”.

I don’t have to be on SNAP right now to feel for people who are, or call out nefarious intentions of the administrators of the program making these rules. We were in food stamps when I was little, but even if we weren’t, I’d still be able to peep the ill intent here.

So did you call out nefarious intentions of the Democrat mayors and legislators that pushed for similar restrictions or are you just calling it out 'cause it's the Republicans doing it now... And one Democrat, the governor of Colorado.

Point me to the equivalency where democrat mayors and legislators singled out the poor in their policies and I’ll gladly call it out as is. If I don’t see it I can’t have an opinion.

When Michelle Obama wanted better lunches at school, it was all school lunches, not just free lunch that the poor qualify for. So don’t use that as your gotcha.

These are your quotes in this thread:

You looking at this wrong. It’s not about what’s best, it’s about individual choice and freedom.

And who are you to tell people what food they should eat? Would you want someone telling you?"

And that’s the thing. Who is deciding what’s bad? The US food supply isn’t the greatest as it is.

Don’t get me wrong, I know the food proposed to be banned is bad. And I don’t think it should be a staple in a diet. But damn, can I not get a box of honey buns from time to time?

These are your quotes in this thread:
School lunch is inherently decided by the school and/or school district. It’s not a damn grocery store where you have a massive variety of options.

If students were given money by the school to go buy their own lunch outside of the school and told the poor students they couldn’t get snacks, that would be your equivalency. Or if they told poor students they could not get the dessert at school lunch.

Try again.

Not a problem:

To summarize:

In 2013, Bloomberg sent a letter to the USDA to continue an effort to ban buying pop and other sugary drinks with SNAP and it was signed by the mayors of LA (Dem), Chicago (Dem), Baltimore (Dem), Boston (Dem), Louisville, Ky (Dem), Madison, WI (Dem), Minneapolis (Dem); Newark, N.J (Dem), Oakland, CA (Dem), Philadelphia (Dem), Phoenix (Dem), Portland, OR (Dem), Providence, RI (Dem), Salt Lake City (Dem), San Francisco (Dem), St. Louis, MO (Dem); and Seattle (Dem). AAAAAAAAAAALL these Democrats signed on to back restricting what could be purchased with food stamps just barely over a decade ago.

Prior to that, Bloomberg and the Democrat governor of New York, David Paterson, applied for a waiver with the USDA so that they could block the purchase of pop and other sugary drinks by SNAP recipients. The USDA denied the request.

Also, Democrat Bill Stone of the Mississippi State Senate proposed SB2293 back in 2012 which, among other things, aimed to restrict SNAP purchases to "... the purchase of healthy food and healthy beverage only."

It's also worth noting that under Trump's first term, all requests to the USDA to block pop and junk food from being purchased with SNAP were denied, same as they were under Obama.

I disagree

Public schools are funded by taxpayers
Government is dictating what the public schools are allowed to feed the kids

Itd be the equivalent of complaining that private schools get to feed their kids whatever they want and ppl who can't afford to send their kids there shouldn't have their freedom of choice taken away

Its just a wider scope (edit: I'm referring to SNAP being the wider scope)

Yep, I have the same opinion about their proposal as I do this. My positions don’t change because it’s democrats.

If you go to a public school, you’re at the mercy of whatever they serve. If that public school tells poor kids they can’t get the dessert, that’s the equivalency.

Everybody can go to the grocery store. And if the government is giving people money to buy food from said grocery store, why should they tell them what foods to buy.

Like I said before, what’s keeping them from limiting the options even further? Why do they need steak or shrimp?

You're at the mercy of whatever they serve bc it's a public school

Whereas private schools with higher family median income aren't subject to government regulations simply bc they can afford so

There are parallels

No that’s like saying people in food deserts should get the same food available in Bel Air. The shit just isn’t there.

You telling people to go into the grocery store with the money you gave them for food and not get what they can see with their own eyes and is accessible.

The better school equivalency is you give kids education vouchers and you only let poor kids choose certain schools even if it’s enough for the rich school.

U can't get whatever u want with snap or even food stamps. Hot foods and rotisserie chickens for example. So that does not equate.
