I see your point and Blow and a few others are also blended from true stories but how likely of most people having that experience. Seemed more sensationalized than it actually was for most. Then you take movies like Boyz N Da Hood and Menace 2 Society which some would say just showed another day in the life of people living in that area. Don't get me wrong I'm not tryna generalize but some hood flicks plots read like some unfortunate shit you read in the paper or in an article. It doesn't seem as far-fetched, but I can't speak from a white man's POV so i only have my own to go on.eeeeh... I won't say that's entirely true.
The movie Goodfellas was largely based on true events. The murders in Goodfellas for the most part actually happened except in some cases some of the more gruesome details were left out.
Tommy in the movie was based on Tommy DeSimone (Two Gun Tommy on the streets). Tommy was, indeed, murdered the night he was supposed to be made just like in the movie, and he was shot in the head three times. What was left out of the movie was that Tommy murdered not one, but two made men and tried to rape the wife of another made man along with showing his face during the heist also portrayed in the film (1978’s historic $6 million heist - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lufthansa_heist ) before the Gambino and Lucchese family heads ordered his death. In the movie they said they gave him a closed casket burial, in reality that didn't happen because his body has never been found. Incidentally, it was John Gotti who put those three bullets into his head.
The lone Black associate in the movie, Stacks, was based on Parnell "Stacks" Edwards. This one they pretty much nailed spot on he was killed for exactly the reason laid out in the movie.
The made man Tommy killed in the movie was Billy Batts, based on real life made man William Benventa, and he was killed for the same reason in the movie; a sideways ass comment about Tommy being a shoeshine boy. The bigger reason, however, was that Benventa's loan sharking business was taken over by Jimmy Burke while he was in prison and he wanted it back.
Every character in the movie was based on a real person and everyone that died is dead and the vast majority of those deaths happened either in the way shown in the movie or worse.
Same goes for another mob flick directed by Scorsese, Casino. (https://www.casino.org/blog/real-life-story-casino-movie-is-based-on/)

true trueFam,i dont know with some niggas if you didnt say nada there would have been Cosigns
I think Black ppl have to stop being so concerned with what white ppl think.
This is all that needs to be said. You have some niggas that swear they don't care about white people, but when you talk to them, everything they do, say or think is guided by something that concerns white people. Shit is weird to me. I get it. Whites are in a position where some of them can do a lot of us dirty if we're not wary. That said, it's like these people don't understand that what whites say and do doesn't have to be the focus of your world. I go through my day not putting much thought into white people at all, and I work with a bunch of them. Some of the power some us believe whites have over our lives only exists because we make it that way.
To be fair, being part of the mafia is about as bad a stereotype for Italians as loving fried chicken and watermelons is for black people. So it's not like they escape the shit unscathed.
Truth be told, white folks in this country don't view Italians as white.
