OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

i aint gonna go back, but i was dying laughing when i called that most folk would identify with the villain

when you place certain shit on too high of a pedestal....fuckery is sure to follow....

and as a life long agent of fuckery and all related sciences....

To take this A step further....Killmongers character was used for a purpose.

A very nefarious one. In a time of racial injustices and the collective outrage from the things that have stemmed from it has reached a boiling point.

People are upset. And wanna do somethong about it. But we aren't in agreement as to what needs to be done.

Then here comes Killmonger. I murderous but relatable antagonist. Just in time to sway the malleable minds of our communities.

Now, let's break down Killmonger so I can keep this somewhat related to the topic at hand.

We're a nuanced people. Sometimes we wanna root for the villain. Deniro in Heat. Pacino in Scarface. Bardem in Skyfall. Denzel in Training Day. Ledger in TDK. Hiddleston in Avengers. All the actors played some of the best villains ever. The protagonist always being victorious is boring.

Killmonger killed what, 5 people? 2 black girls. A white girl. A white guy and a black guy. Ok. Killing his own people was fucked up in the 1st place, but he seems like he was pretty much equal opportunity when killing anyone that was in his way to his goal.

My issue is what seems to be you grasping at straws with how you link some of our community's ills to identifying with Killmonger. Like, what type of niggas you be around that wanna kill women because they're on welfare? And how the hell does that tie into Killmonger? It makes no sense. At best, the shit is a red herring.

At the end of the day, Killmonger was about global domination through Wakanda's means. His plan was half baked, undisciplined, and based on revenge. It was doomed to fail. But considering that most of us in this country feel oppressed, to an extent, I don't see anything wrong with someone bringing some of the very issues we have with our society to the silver screen and us identifying with it.

Ironically, he reminds me of you. He knows our problems, he thinks he can fix it, but his execution is terrible.

Black is everything under the sun, (word to Black Lightning) and to dismiss a portion of it due to other people's ignorance is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing.

We all have our preferences, which is cool. I didn't end up with mine, however, (brown skin/dark skin) but I knew better than to disregard someone based on something as arbitrary as complexion. Do better.

And fwiw, people only say "No offense" when they're in the midst of saying something offensive.

this was actually me inserting power and agency over myself because I have been affected by colorism all my life

this was me reclaiming power back from a dominating power structure (ie colorism)

no different from when we use to scream: Black is beautiful during the civil rights movement to undermine all the negative ideas on Blackness and Black bodies.

Ill admit yall can have these “light skin/racially ambiguous folxs” was crass but based on historical contexts surronding colorism its not hard to understand why I said it.
