OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

This one nigga on Facbook got his thong in a bunch because I said that this movie is not a special moment for Black America, but just a potentially good movie.

i wonder if this thread still gets the traction it did if i said "black hollywood" instead of "black america"

hmmm

I'm a see it because I seen and like every other movie in MCU

Idk what this woke/sleep yall talking about.

Is BP a special moment in black america? Nah. Not really. Is it a dope moment in black america? Hell yeah.

Now, it should be a special moment in black Hollywood. I most definitely believe that. I don't think there's been this much black talent in a movie since Harlem Nights. Eddie was the writer and director there too. But as much as that movie has become a cult classic, it was considered a failure by critics and the box office.

So yeah, it is a special moment in Black Hollywood. At least it should be.

It's a movie...

It's prolly gonna be a dope movie...

Just let it be a cool movie...

Stop trying to make it the Jesus of movies....

This how y'all sound over doing it...

Lol yall acting like woke niggas aint the main ones seeing this movie. Or that this thread is anti the movie. I think what Du and Goldie was getting at was that this movie is still just a marvel movie not the next Malcom X or Selma.

Bruh.... Niggaz throwing happy hours...

They doing school trips.....

They treating this like it's Selma or something.

But I'm hating....

Look, I bought my son a BP toy for 6.99 like last year cuz I knew about this movie and I expected Niggaz to nig....

Same toy like $30.00

This shit is a marketing powerhouse. And it's being overly commercialized before it even comes in theaters.

At this point it has to be the best marvel movie just to live up to the hype....

And the hype is just a bit obnoxious. I just don't like that fake trendy shit. It's mad people getting excited who don't even know what the shit even about.

Lol, I'm not even mad, the shit just comical

My daughter did say she wanted to be the black girl in the toy commercial i saw for the movie. Im perfectly fine with the memes and being extra as possible.

Dress up take off work bring the kids. They do this for Star Wars all the time.

Shit is comedy to me. If people take this more serious than it is, then it's probably because of their ignorance and/or stupidity, and there ain't shit you can do about it, but complain. Ain't gon change a damn thing.

People place entertainment on the highest of plateaus and it will always be that way. Bread and circuses, remember?

Black people are not exempt from this. We're still people. If kids wanna start doing book reports on T'Challa over Thurgood Marshall this year, so what?

Next year it'll be back to Thurgood Marshall anyway.

Pretty much...

I just gotta call shit how I see it at times...

Especially considering the ongoing argument about supporting our shit...

Like as much support we giving this movie... It's still a marvel movie...

I'd love to see this kinda support for a true black movie...

If I could bring one book series to Hollywood, I'd do a movie for every Walter Mosely easy Rawlings book....

If they were done with the same dedication as devil in a blue dress.. Those would be movies I'd be okay over hyping....

But fictional African heritage it is....
:smh:
