Who do you think you are? I am
I was having a conversation with a female friend about another friend of ours. This mutual friend had taken issue to me not posting or speaking on an event we attended, and it upset them.
Me, I didn’t understand the big deal, I believe that moments together with others are intimate engagements and that you enjoy them in the present and if you take pics it’s so you can remember it.
The friend I was speaking to said that the reason it’s so important to her and people like her is that they had insecurities set in them from not being loved publicly when they were young so they seek to promote their good times with others to show people they are loved.
I said, so you post pictures so that other people can see that your loved and love others? They said yes, I said I don’t see the point in caring that others think you love and are loved. They said well why do you post pics of your kid’s achievements online?
I said, because I’m proud of them, and I’m sharing happiness. I’m sharing happiness, I’m not trying to prove to others I’m happy or are capable of being happy, I am happy and I’m sharing it.
At that point I realized l should stop posting pics of my kids and moments. Cause I thought, how many people think I’m sharing pics to prove that I love my children? To me that’s such a disgusting purpose, and I don’t want in any way be attached to such a sentiment.
Why do I need essentially strangers, to believe that I love my kids?
I never really put much thought as to why others share, I always assumed it was the same reason I share. Kinda made me sad for people to need others to believe that they are loved, in order to feel loved.
