2025-26 NBA Season Thread: Back to Agenda Watching!

This issue isn't about his efficiency. It's about getting the best out of your team. You might have players that can contribute in a variety of ways, but if they are relegated to just being support for one guy, you can't maximize the team's capabilities.

There are many reasons. Some teams legit don't have the right personnel, so the stars on those teams have to do more. Some teams lack good coaching, and so their strategy takes the easy way out and puts all the burden on the best guys. Some superstars are selfish and prioritize their own stats and glory over what's best for the team.

I don't know what if any of those reasons apply to Denver. I just know that the common narrative is the Jokic has to do everything because nobody else can do anything without him. We know that's not true though. So don't think that it's at least possible that maybe a better strategy is to organize the team so that you get as much out of your role players as possible and then let your star do what they do rather than the heliocentric style. That's basically what the Triangle Offense was all about and look how successful it was. I'm not beating up on Jokic. I like him. I just think he could probably be utilized in a better way.
I appreciate you giving your take and I apologize for taking so long to respond.

Most coaches stick with one or two players having the most responsibility with the ball on offense usually due to that players being able to create an efficient shot for themselves or their teammates, or them being able to command an extra defender. The most optimal scenario is If the players can consistently draw a double team or break down defenses.

The reason I stated it isn’t even close with the way Charlotte used to play as opposed to Denver is the player movement off ball that Denver does. Charlotte in the past didn’t have as much movement off ball on offense and relied heavily on Melo Ball to create everything. He isn’t efficient or protective enough of the basketball for this to work at a high level. They are playing better due to his workload decreasing along with Kon and (mostly Kon) Miller drawing more attention with their shooting from deep also.

Funny enough the way Denver runs their offense is more similar to the triangle than anything Charlotte did or does. Denver’s offense is a bit more complex than pick and roll or clear out for Jokic and Murray to go one on one.

Alright, fair enough. I can admit that Jokic wasn't the best player to use to make the point.
