And I listed FL, Florida A&M Homecoming, The Florida Classic, shit like that where niggas play all types of music at these events, music from all over the South, by Southern artists

Them East Coast niggas wasn't being played down here and if they were, the nigga who was playing the shit, was considered different or got talked bout or from the East Coast. We got regional classics, shit yall niggas got regional classics AND singles. The shit goes both ways
 
I already cast my vote but it's really amazing to read that dudes outside of the south are really shocked that the majority of the southern region was not bumping Nas, Jay, big, etc outside of a couple of songs.

That's not to say no one listened to them at all, they just wasn't as popular here as they were up north. Why is this so hard to believe? Lol
 
I didn't grow up listening to really any artists outside of the South. I remember my aunties and uncles played Too Short and LL Cool J. I really didn't know who JayZ was until I was around 18 or 19 years old. I had to go back and listen to Reasonable Doubt years later after it's release to become more familiar with the artist.

Most of it was because my pops was in the military so I lived in the Detroit area for about 4 yrs before I moved back to Bama permanently. So I was exposed to other shit.

But I can vouch...when we would come visit and Im asking my cousins about east coast artists they like naw bruh...FOH with that...put that NL, CMR, etc on lol
 
New Orleans music was dominant during that era also...

Im from Mobile, Al

NO, Biloxi, and Mobile are basically sister cities...NL and Cash Money were the big artists in my area...
 
Just ask yourself, when did artists from the East Coast start to appear on Down South albums? after who did what which made it cool for niggas down south to listen to East Coast music.


If these albums yall think everybody was so into like that (around the world) Why wasn't NL, and CM, Suave House, etc these big record label down south, featuring yo Redmen, Method Mans, Nore etc on the albums down here?

You know why these artists weren't on majority of southern artist albums in the 90s, cuz niggas, their fan base wasn't fucking wit them east coast niggas like that. Niggas aint wanna hear that shit.

Man I remember when P dropped the "I got the Hook-Up Soundtrack" and how ppl were like why this nigga got ODB on the album? etc etc. Lol. and that wasn't even the tightest song on that soundtrack.

Man niggas wasn't rocking them east coast albums like yall think everybody was, yall got tons of regional classics.

But when east coast people have this mentality in the reverse it's called being "closed minded" and "east coast biased"

To knocks point, outside of the singles Snoop had while on deathrow, the first time I listened to an entire album of his was his first one on NL.

I don't have a problem/issue wit any east coast person from having their thoughts, but I do think East Coast ppl need to know and understand that some of the rappers/albums AND producers that they deem as Gold, everybody in another region may feel a different way about it.

East Coast bias, I get it, cuz that's what you grew up on, I won't expect somebody from the East coast to know my mind-set that when I mention that, Soulja Rags shits x, y and z album, they wouldn't get it cuz they either haven't heard the album, or the masses in their area wasn't playing it, that's not the norm that they listened to, but that's what I heard and knew of, or when I mention 400 degrees shits that such and such album.

Like those albums and other southern albums were what was being played at the time heavenly throughout the South in the 90s, So East Coast dude thinking how he thinks, is all gravy with me, but just don't cast your thoughts on me or look at me crazy when I say things as "Fresh is the best producer I've heard", just because Magazines big up an album don't mean it's law, A lot of southern albums went un-notice (See BG Chopper City, Get it How U Live). Cuz as I stated, 9 outta 10 times the album that magazines big up and rank, when that shit dropped, it wasn't being played throughout the southern region.

Like a 8ball & MJG (Coming out Hard) album, that's a classic album, others may say hell no, but that is all I heard throughout the southern region.

My last comment on the matter. I don't have to have lived in Chicago, NY, etc... to appreciate the culture that's depicted in the music

But just go back to the 400 degrees thread and read how people not from this region tried to shit on the album when he was describing life in Nola. People laugh at Ha, but like I said, around that time, that's how people talked in everyday conversation. It was relatable.
